Video Shows Mother and Young Daughter Taken Away During Houston ICE Detention

Witnesses can be heard discussing efforts to contact the child’s father before agents direct both the mother and girl into an unmarked vehicle.

HOUSTON — A video circulating on social media appears to show federal immigration agents detaining a mother while she holds her young daughter, raising concerns among witnesses about a possible family separation.

The footage shows the woman standing near several agents as people nearby discuss contacting the girl’s father. Spanish-language remarks in the video include references to “Papá,” calling him and informing him about his daughter.

The person recording the encounter appears to ask that the father be contacted so he can come for the child. However, the agents proceed without waiting for him to arrive.

The mother is then seen carrying the girl toward an unmarked vehicle. Both are directed inside before the vehicle leaves the area.

The full circumstances leading to the detention are not clear from the video. It is also not independently confirmed whether the child is a U.S. citizen, whether agents formally refused a request to contact the father or where the mother and daughter were taken.

The man filming tells those present that he will try to reach the father and explain what happened to his family.

The incident reportedly occurred in Houston, although the precise location has not been independently verified.

The video has drawn criticism from viewers who say the mother appeared to face an impossible choice between leaving her daughter behind without a parent present or taking the child with her during the detention.
