Some of the more than 200 suspects facing illegal mining charges have pleaded guilty to charges of being in South Africa without valid documentation.

During lengthy appearances at the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the suspects testified that they entered the country illegally.

The accused include more than 107 Lesotho nationals, 56 Mozambicans and four Zimbabweans, who are charged with contravening the Immigration Act.

🤔James was so loud about xenophobia shouting from the rooftops, condemning South Africa for wanting to enforce its laws. But look at where the refugee camp in Kenya is, it's in the middle of nowhere, in a desolate, remote area far from Kenyan communities. And the law in Kenya? It doesn't allow refugees to integrate. They are confined to camps, kept at a distance, and treated as separate from the local population.

So where is the Pan-Africanism now? Where is the outrage? Where is the solidarity? James is silent. The Kenyan government is silent. The entire East African community is silent. They will point fingers at South Africa, but they will not look at their own policies. They will demand that we open our borders, but they will not open theirs. They will call us xenophobic, but they will not acknowledge their own exclusion.

If Kenya can keep refugees in camps, if they can refuse to integrate them, then South Africa can also enforce its laws. We are not xenophobic.
