Very excited to share our work in @CellCellPress. Here, we propose that meningeal mast cells regulate brain inflammation after stroke by coordinating immune infiltration from the skull bone marrow, through the meninges, and into the brain!

I'm excited to share our new study published in Cell.
This work uncovers a critical role for dural mast cells in shaping cerebrospinal fluid flow and protecting the brain from infection. https://t.co/a8k9Qny1yc
Excited to share this new work from our lab, led by an exceptional graduate student, Tornike Mamuladze (@tornikemamu), on the role of meningeal mast cells in regulation of brain/dura access points, with implications to CSF flow dynamics and meningitis ||

This mechanism serves as a frontline defense against CNS infection. Pathogens such as S. agalactiae and S. pneumoniae exploit ACE points to access the brain. Mast cell activation redirects CSF flow and recruits neutrophils, limiting this bacterial invasion.
Georgian Dream’s decision to suspend EU accession is a betrayal of the Georgian constitution. We condemn excessive force used against Georgians exercising their freedom to protest and have suspended our Strategic Partnership with Georgia.
Just watched a wonderful Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio film! Beautiful and masterful!

Very excited to share a new story from @kipnislab led by @Drieu_Antoine in collaboration with many others from within&outside our lab on parenchymal border macrophages (PBMs) in regulation of CSF flow with implications to aging and Alzheimer's disease || https://t.co/CbBWljpT2D
Exciting! #NIH awarded Marco Colonna, @jonykipnis @GwenRandolph_ with @WashUNeurology@holtzman4 $15M for Alzheimer’s research. Focus is on myeloid cells including microglia & macrophages & lymphatics in Alzheimer’s disease & Cerebral amyloid angiopathy. https://t.co/bEv8O8gyJW
On this day in 2008, when I was doing groceries, Russia invaded Georgia. As the news on Georgian radio were nervously reporting about Russia’s bombing and killing civilians, I was already running to my parents’, with the only thought to see them. 1/9
When we stated working on meninges ~15 years ago, nobody cared about "the borders"... over the years "the borders" of the brain have taken the central stage of neuroimmunology! "From esoteric mainstream" could have been an alternative title of this feature https://t.co/mKYxbzKRJw
@smyth_leon and I are excited to share our latest work @NatureNeuro ! We describe an unexpected form of neuroimmune communication whereby CSF gains direct access to skull bone marrow niches and regulates immune supply to CNS borders. https://t.co/ZoZoOE0GjB
A thread. 👇
Putin has just launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.
The recorded video of Dr. Jony Kipnis seminar entitled Immunological uniqueness of brain borders is now available at “Global Immunotalks” YouTube Channel https://t.co/DAmIeN0faP
Hope you enjoy it!
