I feel like I'm never *the* person for anyone; I am solely in others' lives for a temporary time / limited purpose, to teach them important life lessons, prepare them for their future, to serve as the trial / practice run or therapeutic exercise - at my expense & to my detriment.
These kind of articles genuinely do nothing to reduce any stigma attached to alcoholism and they may actually stop someone from accessing help because although they might recognise they have an issue with alcohol they are still functioning so can’t be an alcoholic
There’s an article in todays Telegraph with the headline “Functional alcoholic’ is a meaningless term”
Just so we’re clear that’s nonsense. Functioning alcoholics do exist and you don’t have to wait until your life is in absolute chaos before seeking help for an alcohol problem
In the deepest pits of despair, often it's the simple things that lift you up. I often find myself looking for some grand salvation when I'm deep in depression but every time it's something as small as going for a walk, getting a snack I love, or spending time with a love one that pulls me out of it. Your reason to be alive and keep fighting doesn't have to be grand.
