Our study on mortality and and-life years lost (LYL) following the development of subsequent physical health conditions in people with substance use disorders (SUD) is now 🔓 online at @TheLancetPsych https://t.co/zPAgO7uac1
A 🧵 on the study 👇
Opportunity for young people aged between 16 and 35 who have experienced psychosis to get involved in an important project with @benjmnperry which will help people with severe mental illness live longer healthier lives.

Our @HINSouthLondon & @CavendishSG evaluation of physical health-check data from over 36,000 patients with #SMI#SeriousMentalIllness across our nine London mental health Trusts. We need to do better, but this collaboration is a start (and at scale). https://t.co/prT4sePyN7
A wide range of PDs are more likely to result in all-cause death in people with pre-existing SMDs. This premature mortality cannot be fully explained by having more clinically recorded PDs, suggesting that PDs are more likely to be fatally harmful in this patient group.
Very happy to announce that our study investigating the contribution of severe mental disorders (SMDs) to fatally harmful effects of physical disorders (PDs) is now online in @TheBJPsych (https://t.co/gD0sQZcOXe; analytical plan https://t.co/OzWad3OStn) 📢
Summary 👇
For most associations, particularly those related to cardiovascular diseases and cancers, the results remained robust after considering the potentially confounding role of somatic multimorbidity, disorders due to substance use, the number of hospital admissions and other factors.
@EikoFried There is a type of a Hungarian soft sausage, which is not too far from nduja, but I guess it would be even more difficult to find where you live 😀
Systemic efforts are needed to fully reverse the risk attributable to long-term, structural processes affecting health of people with psychotic and substance use disorders. To reduce these disparities, inclusion of these people in future vaccination campaigns is imperative.
Our study investigating mortality following first-ever SARS-CoV-2 infection in individuals with pre-existing mental disorders throughout the pandemic is now available @PLOSMedicine (https://t.co/vUsSgBPrZV)!
A 🧵 below 👇
The consistently increased vulnerability beyond vaccination uptake and clinically recorded physical comorbidity aligns with existing evidence on fatal health inequalities in people with psychotic and substance use disorders.
