Chad Gable recalls learning about his torn rotator cuff and that he would need surgery:
“Basically to fill you in on what happened, this stems back a while, but in October of this last year [2024], I was wrestling Gunther on a live event in the UK. Something happened to my bicep tendon on this side [right side], which has never happened to me before. And I don’t even know specifically in the match what happened. It was nobody’s fault. It’s just a freak thing.
I was walking to the back after the match. My bicep was feeling very funky, and I looked down at it, and it was also looking very funky. I got it checked out. It turned out I had a slight tear in my right bicep tendon, the one that attaches at the shoulder. But nothing serious enough that required surgery or whatever. So kept wrestling, finished the tour, carried on as normal.
— But progressively the right side, specifically my arm, was giving me more and more trouble. Sometimes I couldn’t extend my elbow all the way. Sometimes it hurt, too. Sometimes I started having pain down here in the lower part of the bicep. And so eventually I decided I better get this checked out. At least just for my sanity so I know everything’s okay.
I got MRIs on my shoulder, my tricep, my bicep tendons involved in that, too, to get a look at what was going on, and the doctor kind of explained to me they found some different issues. Our doctor wanted to see me down in person for these. When I went down there, we also decided to get an image of my left shoulder because it had also been giving me some nagging injuries and got some news that I was not expecting.
It turns out all this time I was so worried about my right side and the left side was the one that had all these issues to my surprise. I got this news that the rotator cuff was torn and this knocked me off my feet bad. I'm the type of guy that expects to go in and be told that this pain I'm dealing with is like, you got some issues, but it's nothing that requires surgery. That's what it's always been. Through amateur wrestling all the way through my time with WWE. I’ve never been seriously hurt. And they went on to explain to me essentially that it had to be fixed. A torn tendon off the bone is not gonna repair itself.
The initial stage that I had to go through was denial because I didn't want to accept that I could be hurt. I'd never been hurt and that was one of the hard things for me to deal with. And getting to that acceptance stage took a while.”

Indi Hartwell says Steph De Lander helped her the most following her WWE release in 2024:
"The person who helped me the most throughout this was Steph De Lander. She's my best friend. We were best friends in Australia. We were on the indies together. We were at NXT together.
"She got released in 2022 and she kind of had to navigate that all by herself. She had the help of Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green - who have also been a really great help for me - but just trying to figure out how the indies are these days...
"Figuring out how that all works now... the last time I had been on the indies was in 2019, so it had been quite a while. Covid had happened since then. The landscape had changed. There's another major wrestling company out there now. So, there's just more opportunity.
"Steph has really helped me a lot, and Steph told me, 'When you're not working for WWE and you're on the indies, you are working 24/7.' It's so true."
