Seattle has Amazon, Microsoft, and Boeing, and Lufthansa just handed it to its vacation airline.
From late March, Frankfurt and Munich to Seattle move to Discover, on older A330s. Discover isn't in Star Alliance, so most Star Gold members outside Miles & More, United, Air Canada, and ITA likely lose their lounge and status perks.
Lufthansa's own new planes are going to Columbus and Phoenix instead.
Columbus has never had a nonstop to Europe. People will say it's for Intel, but Intel's Ohio plant has slipped to 2030 or later. It's a German business route: 38 German companies in the region, and Bayer just picked New Albany for a $2.2 billion plant. Lufthansa is sending a 787 with its new Allegris cabins.
Phoenix gets an A350 from Munich, Lufthansa's first Phoenix flight in more than 20 years.
So why give up Seattle? Alaska now flies Seattle to London and Rome, and adds Paris and Athens next year. Delta flies to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, and Barcelona. I think Lufthansa would rather fly where it's the only option than fight both of them.
It's done this before. Discover took over Orlando and Philadelphia in 2022 and Minneapolis in 2025, and Seattle is next. Lufthansa has flown to the US since 1955, but lately the business cities get its planes and the vacation routes go to Discover.
@ShawnChittle Never really thought of it as brutalist the same way I think of so much period architecture in the Former Soviet Union… I’d like to think we gave some of our bland 70’s era stuff just a little more pizazz
Binged #TheDiplomatS4 the past few days. Incredibly well done, so many undertones. I just wish they didn’t hit us with an even greater cliffhanger than the end of season 3! Wow.
Last Lufthansa A340-600 (D-AIHW) arriving into Dulles on LH418. She’ll turn around as LH419 the final scheduled passenger flight of the type. End of an era for the flying pencil. #avgeek#A340#Dulles#IAD
The Big 12 said officials incorrectly ended Saturday night's game between BYU and Notre Dame and that the Irish should have had another second on the clock to run a final play. https://t.co/DddmFRKmJl
Mike Pereira on Fox just now about the 1 second in ND-BYU:
"I talked to the Big 12 center, they said replay did clear it, but it’s pretty obvious here there is a second left on the clock and there should’ve been another play for Notre Dame.”
