Last summer, my home was swatted while I was on a business trip — officers swarmed the house with my pregnant wife and kids inside. It was the worst day of my life.

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law to increase penalties for swatting and put an end to this disgraceful act.

Florida now has the harshest penalties in the nation for swatting:

-Perps will be charged with a felony for swatting offenses that lead to damage, injuries or death
-Courts will be required to make the perp pay restitution
-Enhanced penalities for repeat offenders
-Prosecution + Investigation will be billed to the perp
-Full Victim Compensation

I’m deeply grateful to The Governor for taking real action to stop this dangerous, life-threatening crime. I know dozens of other Florida-based independent journalists who have been swatted and are breathing a sigh of relief thanks to this action.
