My police academy classmate and friend, Transit Police SGT Thomas Sewell, was fatally attacked on March 12, 1989. His wife, Jeannie; his family; and the Guardians of the Underground are in my prayers every day. He will never be forgotten.

Highway Patrolman Andy Chan was laid to rest today. When @PPDCommish asked what Andy would say when he entered heaven, a unified yell of "HIGHWAY" shook the church. It was an honor to join the Elite Highway Patrol in celebrating Andy's life.

I know exactly what happened when the amazing soul of Highway Patrolman Andy Chan arrived at the pearly gates. He smiled broadly at Saint Michael, thrust his arm out for a firm handshake, bowed slightly and said, "I am here to serve, Sir."
