🚨 Gary Neville on Liverpool’s XI against Atlético Madrid:
🎙️ “I actually really like this Liverpool team. Iraola has gone for pace, power and youth in the attack, and putting Barcola in from the start tells you exactly what he wants tonight. This is his first Champions League start for Liverpool, and there’s no better stage than Anfield against Atlético Madrid.”
“But I’ll tell you what stands out to me Liverpool aren’t playing this game cautiously. Wirtz, Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Isak, Barcola and Ngumoha is a team built to attack. If Atlético sit deep, Liverpool have enough quality to pick them apart. If they come out, Liverpool have the pace to hurt them in behind.”
“And this is where Iraola gets judged. First Champions League game, first European night at Anfield, and he’s basically saying, ‘We’re not scared of Atlético.’ I love that. If Liverpool win tonight, people will start asking a very different question about this team are they actually one of the sides nobody wants to face in this Champions League?”

I’m excited to share that I have joined the Education Desk at the Henry Nxumalo Foundation as a Senior Reporter.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of reporting on crime, courts, politics and the issues that shape our society. This new role offers an opportunity to focus on one of the country’s most important stories: education.
The Education Desk is an independent, non-profit newsroom dedicated to in-depth reporting on education in South Africa. In its pilot phase, EdDesk is focusing on early and foundation education, guided by the belief that quality learning is the foundation on which young lives, communities and the country’s future are built.
Our work goes beyond reporting on the challenges. We will tell the stories unfolding in classrooms, hold systems accountable, and explore solutions and interventions that can make a real difference for learners, teachers and families.
I’m grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working alongside an incredible team to tell stories that matter and, hopefully, contribute to meaningful change.

South African players have technical quality.
Goalkeeper, centre-backs and midfielders are comfortable breaking lines with progressive passes.
The full-backs add creativity too, fearless in 1v1 situations, even capable of nutmegging opponents.
Then you have explosive and dynamic wingers who can beat players in tight spaces.
Khuliso Mudau just nutmegged two Canadian players, lmao. Another player we don't talk enough about when it comes to his technical game. We only ever focus on his pace and his 1v1 defending in a Mamelodi shirt. Got serious feet. Proper, proper right-back this guy.

FIFA WORLD CUP | Peter Mudau, father of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana defender Khuliso Mudau, says his son’s meteoric rise to the international football stage fills him with pride.
Ronwen Williams.
I don't think there's a better ball-playing goalkeeper at this World Cup.
That's the main reason Canada are reluctant to step out and press him. They know he'll find the pass to break their press, turning their pressure into South Africa's advantage.
He's the goalkeeper with the most progressive passes at this World Cup by a considerable margin.
He also ranks in the top 10 among all players for progressive passes.
He's one of the main reasons I'm convinced South Africa can build from the back and stay true to their footballing identity.
His passing technique and composure on the ball are outstanding.
