However good you think DJ Durkin is, he’s better. Arkansas just scored 31 in Knoxville vs Tennessee and 42 against Texas A&M. Durkin and his guys just held them to 17.

He held Missouri to 23.
He held Georgia to 20.
He held Texas A&M to 16.
He held Oklahoma to 24.
He held Baylor to 24.

And anyone who watched those games knows our offense put our defense’s back against the wall over and over again.

Durkin is the best coordinator in the country.

I loved the Hugh Freeze hire at Auburn (I lobbied for him when they hired the loser before him).

I think he did a tremendous job of rebuilding a roster and realigning the program.

Unfortunately, he has followed the same career arc as Gus Malzahn when it comes to their offense. He hasn’t evolved over time, there is absolutely no creativity. Defenses have nothing to be scared of, even with dudes as talented as Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton out wide.

The offense has no competitive edge at all, while the defense has laid its guts on the line every week to no avail.

You won’t ever change my opinion of how poor of a leader and player Payton Thorne was, but it’s become impossible to blame everything on him with a straight face.

Auburn has gotten grossly outcoached nearly every week.

Hugh Freeze is right. Auburn has a roster that is on par with the teams they’ve played every week. They sure are close. But it’s obvious what’s holding them back from getting over that hump.
