I have come to a realisation that at some point in your financial journey, cutting the coffee or Netflix subscription etc is not the key to that financial transformation you are looking for.
At some point, a lot of these costs becomes a free perk that you do not need to pay for. But for some people, it may be their initial step in the right direction to cut the costs. It's not a universal fix for all!
When you have children, please be involved in their lives.
Even though they are still 9 years old, discuss politics with them, argue about football. Their opinions may be silly since they’re still kids, but let them speak. Don’t shut them up. It will help them become better adults.
I remember when I was writing WAEC and all the students were asked to wait outside. It was a very hot day and everybody was sweating profusely and complaining of standing under the sun, but I was the only one who was bold enough to walk to the teacher and ask why we had to wait outside. What’s wrong in sitting inside to wait for whenever the invigilator arrived? We were supposed to be writing exams and for whatever reason the invigilator is late, so why put us through this stress few minutes to our exam?
In secondary school an overzealous teacher asked me to leave the classroom instead of addressing the issue I raised. I insisted that my parents paid my school fees so I can learn and she can’t ’punish' me by preventing me from learning. Some people were saying I should leave the classroom just for peace to reign. It’s the same kind of argument we hear these days about 'applying wisdom'.
I wrote a petition against a teacher in my secondary school too. I intentionally refused to tuck in my shirt when an SS3 student asked me to because he was not properly dressed. He proceeded to assault me and I petitioned him to the VP Student Affairs. He was suspended for 2 weeks.
My argument was simple: I agreed that I was in the wrong, however the punishment was not assault since the school outlaws corporal punishment.
He was suspended and I was asked to work in the school farm.
It’s simply because as a child I was given a voice. If my own biological father can concede to a superior argument, who the hell do you think you are to bring up respect when you’re losing an argument?
There is this cute app I built about tracking naira.
Each time you have a naira note, just log it. If another person logs the same note, you can see the journey.
