@tylermilliken_ MLB balks are delayed dead ball. If batter reaches base safely you take the result of the at bat. Why not take the result here? I don't see where the batter reaching base is mandatory to not take result of pitch. @ScoringChanges@balkwhisperer
Rare pitching change with a 1-2 count and 1 out with runner at 1st. The reliever ended up walking the batter. West Virginia vs Kentucky is tied 5-5 in top 10th.
What velocity do you recommend pitchers quit throwing in college to prepare for MLB?
Skenes was ready to pitch with zero rest in CWS for LSU as the #1 overall pick.
In this specific scenario, pitch minimally.
Save it for the next level where it matters.
Let time & maturity run its course.
The velocity will still be there.
Imagine having to explain to someone seeing Wazzu vs Oregon St in Eugene that this is not a Pac 12 Tournament game, but an NCAA Regional of a Mountain West team vs an Independent team at a Big Ten stadium.
The #1 overall NCAA Baseball seed is UCLA. They just lost to Saint Mary which should be the #64 seed if baseball brackets were the same as basketball. Saint Mary is still unlikely to win the Regional but a crazy day with Auburn, Southern Miss, Oregon State all losing as #1 seeds.
This exchange is for those who turn 19 before HS graduation. Proposal says "whichever comes first". If you turn 19 during your Senior year then your NCAA clock starts sikce 19 happens before HS graduation. That is how I am understanding the proposal. The specifics of that implementation will be interesting. Turn 19 in March while in HS then 5 years later do you become ineligible in March? You can put any month in that scenario while in HS and see that it could get confusing. Until NCAA gives clarification we won't know.
I appreciate the dialogue. Im still looking for wording that says 19 doesn't start the clock while still in HS. I can't find anything.
I still don't see where I misspoke. The letter of the law says your clock starts at HS graduation "or" 19. If you turn 19 in January then your clock starts and a Spring sport athlete is using 1 of their 5 years while in HS.
Your interpretation is that the clock starts for 19 yr olds after HS graduation. That may end up being an exception but for now that is not how the proposal is written. If you could find some NCAA wording to show otherwise I would like to see it.
@Harpersferry59@chriscfore@jag4LF Louisiana High School Athletic Association eligibility rules allow students to turn 19 on or after August 1st and play sports as a Senior. Schools begin early to mid August.
Greyshirt football players graduated HS and sat out Fall of FR yr in college then started their clock in January. That gave them an extra year bc they weren't students yet.
As it is written for new rule the clock would start when you turn 19. For example a Spring athlete that turns 19 in January then completes Senior spring season, their clock started in January. Giving that example 4 yrs of eligibility after HS since they have used a yr of eligibility in HS.
Yordan Alvarez leads off 8th in a 2-2 game. He hit 2HR yesterday and 1 the day before that, he hit a HR early in this game. Clearly pitching around him to see if he will chase and gets to 3-0 count. In MLB you can tell the batter to go to 1B, no need to pitch to him. Then he hit a 79.6 mph sweeper for a HR (it was in the zone). There was no need to throw a strike. Manager or pitcher got greedy and it will likely cost the Rangers the game.
Rangers up 9-6 in 8th and bring in Latz to close with 2 outs in top of 8th. Jason Alexander goes 6.0 INN for Astros after giving up 8R in 1st. How many pitchers have given up 8R or more in 1st and gone more than 5.0 innings? My guess is that Alexander is the only pitcher to ever to it. Reminder that Rangers got no hit yesterday. @CodifyBaseball@theaceofspaeder
