Not total BS. I hate when people try to pass off the Northern and Middle Southern States as the Deep South. The true Deep South is, actually, the states that border the Gulf of Mexico. I’m from Baton Rouge, La., and I’ve never not heard the “n” word as a pejorative. In fact, in 1991, a black golfer wasn’t allowed to play in a State tourney match at Caldwell Country Club in Caldwell Parish in Louisiana, in 1991. The coach and team boycotted. I haven’t heard it as often as i did in the 80s, but it’s not rare.
