When I heard about Senator Graham’s death last night, the first thing I thought about was not all the things he said and did in service of Donald Trump. I thought of the time before Donald Trump when he was a brother to Senator John McCain.
A time when senators from different parties could fight about politics and still be friends. A time when a conservative Republican from South Carolina could say of my father: “If you can’t admire Joe Biden as a person, you’ve got a problem. He’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in politics. As good a man as God ever created.”
That is the Senator Graham I will remember today. Not because I have forgotten what came after. Because in that memory there is hope. Hope for a country where brothers can fight like hell over policy and still share a meal, and a laugh, and the loss of the people they love.
I will choose to remember the time before Trump. Because I believe in an America after Trump.
Good morning and Happy Sunday to everyone who agrees that, now that Lindsey Graham has died, it is even more critical to get transparency NOW about Mitch McConnell's actual physical state.
It's down to either 52 or 51 R votes in the Senate.
That matters.
Lindsey Graham on Trump:
“He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represent the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for”
(2015)
Lindsey Graham has died after a hollow life spent relentlessly pursuing access to power. His pivot from hating Trump to slobbering over him is especially ugly. A closeted gay man who voted against every LGBTQ civil rights measure. An aspiring Roy Cohn with rare flashes of decency
I have no good memories of Lindsey Graham.
His transformation from a guy who utterly despised trump, his infamous "If we nominate trump" tweet, into trunmp's chief lickspittle and ball washer, was sad.
The disgraceful legacy he leaves behind is of spinelessness, and as a war monger, eager to nuke women and children in Gaza.
That's how I will remember him.
Lindsey Graham was a simple, tragic man. He lacked a moral core. The great empty spaces of his life were filled with an insatiable need for “relevance.” He found it as a cast member in the most malignant reality show ever made.

Today marks 20 years of sobriety for me. Extremely grateful for my recovery community today and every day and sending my love to anyone out there counting days ❤️🩹
We just have some random lunatic in the Oval Office going around and destroying everything, and nobody is doing anything about it. Congress? Oversight? Ha! If you’d shown me this as the future 10 years ago I would’ve committed you. Now I feel crazy.
🚨BREAKING: Mitch McConnell’s health update takes a bizarre turn after a neighbor says the ambulance that responded had “no urgency” as Mitch’s lifeless feet were not covered by a blanket.
McConnell had been in the hospital for over a month. This is now a coverup.
Once again, it is time for @GovAndyBeshear to call the special election.
McConnell’s team ignored the request for a health update.
It is not illegal to call a special an election on a presumed vacancy.
If Republicans have proof of life to halt it, then they can show the court.
