π¨ NEW: The Government says the following foods will be banned or limited in schools from September 2027 to tackle obesity
Banned:
π³ Fried eggs
π Deep-fried food such as fish and chips (must be oven-baked only)
π₯ Breakfast pastries
π₯£ Coco Pops and other high-sugar cereals
π« Nutella/chocolate spread
Limited:
π Processed meat such as sausages, chicken nuggets and ham - once a week and must be served with fruit or vegetables
π° Sweet desserts - once a week in primary schools and twice a week in secondary schools, which must be served with fruit (e.g. blueberries alongside apple crumble)
π« Starchy foods cooked in oil or fat - twice a week
π Foods high in fat and salt such as pizza and sausage rolls - only as a very occasional one-off
π₯€ Drinks high in sugar or sweetener - only as a very occasional one-off
π Bread - at least 4g of fibre per 100g and 50% wholemeal flour
π Tomato ketchup and other salt and sugar condiments - 10g portions
Additions:
πΎ Wholegrain - one pasta dish a week must contain at least 50% wholewheat pasta
π§ Pulses - lentils or chickpeas with one main meal a week
π₯¦ Fruit and vegetables - every dish must include at least one portion
