@profsamperry Admins will want to know how a TT religion line will bring in more $ than a med. sociology or criminology line. I'd bet that it keeps shrinking in sociology and that religion and divinity programs eat the grads. Unlikely that faculty can or will do much about it. Thoughts?

AFAIK, all the academic jobs this year related to sociology of religion are in religion departments or divinity schools, NOT soc departments. And things have been trending this way for awhile. 1/2

@bindersab I wonder how much of this is industry-driven. Oil co's have recently shifted away from re-investment and are increasingly angling to cash out with existing infrastructure. I wonder how much this attitude has filtered into strategies in lobbying, campaign contributions, etc.
