The talk should be interesting to anyone developing software in a collaborative team environment, regardless of the language used. It's best experienced knowing no details about it, so skip reading the description, just hit the play button, and watch the story unfold.

The format of this talk is heavily inspired by the beautiful venue of Theatro Circo. It was the first time I performed at a theater stage, so for this occasion I dug deep, went far outside my comfort zone, and came up with a fusion of a technical talk and a monodrama 🎭

Of all the talks I've given, this one is the closest to my heart, so I hope you'll enjoy it!

I don’t feel it, and I don’t think it is rational, but I do see it. The zeitgeist of the thought leaders does tend negative. I remember waving my flag of technological optimism in the 90s and getting smiling chuckles from people, while now I can count on at least some angry disapproval.

On net, the world is better than it has ever been in history, and the derivative is still positive — it is going to get even better! Miraculous and clever things are all around, and I try to appreciate them all.

I want to tell people to snap out of it and get on board the progress train; there is room for everyone! To a large degree, it will happen regardless of the negative feels, but not completely. Culture does make a difference, and I would like it to be positive.

I haven't done much concurrent/network dev before Elixir. I did some recently in Swift/C# and it wasn't easy to say the least. We hear there's barrier because FP/OTP. I took it for granted but gen_tcp+binary matching is not just a bit better, it's on a completely different level.
