In 1953, an engineer at the Indian Statistical Institute in Calcutta wandered through the local Chandni Chowk’s scrap markets, collecting discarded vacuum tubes and military electronics left behind after World War II.

He brought the parts back to his lab and built something that would change Indian technological history.
