We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both.
I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces.

Kissing Trump’s ass to avoid a Trumpian primary challenge in 2026. Pathetic. Don’t remember you saying this about ‘Europeans’ when thousands of Brits fought alongside America in Iraq and Afghanistan, with over 600 losing their lives to help your country. Don’t remember you saying thank you.
@SociallyTruth@RupertLowe10 Because the troops on the ground would be part of the peace deal.
The Trump admin stated any agreement would require European troops in Ukraine to maintain peace. Starmer is saying the UK is willing to play its part in that.
It's really not difficult to understand.
@bigsnugga Also - 'a war of attrition doesn't benefit Ukraine at this point' - again, no shit!!
A war full stop doesn't benefit them, they didn't choose to go to war!
@bigsnugga Yeah no shit it won't be 1:1, that's not the point. The point is how could they have traded territory 3 years ago as you claim, when they didn't hold any Russian territory? What were they going to trade?
@bigsnugga How could this have happened 3 years ago? Ukraine held zero Russian territory 3 years ago. Zelensky's position is to trade Ukrainian held territory in Kursk (taken in 2024) for the Russian held territory in Ukraine. They literally had no RU territory to trade before last year.
@dathomeerkat @gordonguthrie@joshxhowie@amots Not entirely sure that helps the argument given the context of who else half of Germany has historically supported
@LoftusSteve@borpin How long are people (who have mortgages, rents, bills to pay and children to feed etc) supposed to remain unemployed and without income whilst waiting for this hypothetical free market induced wage increase?
