40 years since making The Color of Money.
I had the privilege as a young artist, to have a general meeting with Paul Newman and separately with Martin Scorsese years before making this film, where they shared some of their wisdom on cinema.
Of course, I’d seen their films, but prior to meeting them for the first time, I set up a personal study course where I would watch their films in sequence from the beginning of their careers, up until that point in time.
After being cast in The Color of Money, I once again studied all of their films in sequence.
Having studied their work, then being able to see firsthand these incredible artists, the towering legends of our field, at work on set, I was able to observe their practical application in every aspect of acting and filmmaking from their point of view.
I will always be grateful for this opportunity and for the generosity that Newman and Scorsese showed me with their knowledge of cinema and insight throughout the entire process.
To Marty, Paul, and the enormously talented cast and crew, it was a pleasure and an honor to be part of this film with you all! I have carried this experience and knowledge with me my entire career.
DIGGER (2026) is losing 2,535 theaters in its third weekend, leaving it in just 786 venues. After opening to $8 million domestically and dropping 60% in its second weekend, Tom Cruise’s film is suffering one of the year’s most brutal theatrical collapses.
Ben Affleck says the "high-school bullying" of Tom Cruise's "Digger" will only lead to Hollywood studios making more "sh*tty" movies.
"Everybody wants to celebrate this bomb as if it’s the most exciting thing to happen. And you think like, it’s a pretty ambitious, interesting movie made by interesting people who have talent. Everybody wants to count the money, what it lost or whatever. To me, I just think, if you punish movies that take risks, guess what you're going to get? A bunch of sh*tty homogenized movies. You cannot do something interesting without taking a big swing. And that means you're going to sometimes look bad." (via Happy Sad Confused)

Ben Affleck turned down the chance to direct STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS (2015)
“I don’t think I can do it as well as somebody else, and I don’t want to direct something that I don’t feel like I have a chance to be really, really proud of.”
EDGE OF TOMORROW (2014) had Tom Cruise dying over and over again in an alien war, & somehow turned it into an absolute blast. The marketing barely did it justice, but Doug Liman delivered one of the most rewatchable sci-fi action movies of the decade.
