The Hate crime legislation is with the Seanad at the moment. Our country will be changed in the worst possible way when it passes. Maybe you think that it doesn't matter.. it's all about being nice.
But it does matter. You're about to lose your freedom to say, tweet and argue what you believe, if that belief upsets any of the groups "protected" by this legislation.
Today we are all equal before the law, we all enjoy the same rights and protections. A wonderful point in human society. But that's not enough, it doesn't allow the full suite of so called progressive rules to be imposed. It doesn't support unquestioning acceptance by citizens, academia, politicians, media and business, of the one great truth. To achieve that level of adherence, you need a stick. This is a big stick.
Despair is an extreme word but this makes me despair.
Where are the leaders of this generation? Maybe only those who have felt the sting of oppression know that freedom to speak safely is the only real protection that democracy has. Censorship is not your friend.

If the Irish Government are forcing main stream media to withhold certain information from the public for fear of that information being in the public domain would result in a General Election, that's a very serious attack on our Democracy

Three days after the publication by @wereontheditch of a story detailing a government ministers criminality, a story that’s dominated social media for 3 days & been read by over one million people, not a single mainstream journalist/publication has commented on the story. Wild.
