Remote work does not mean work from home.
It does not mean that being together is not a good thing.
It doesn't mean you can't ever work from an office.
It means freedom in location, freedom in choice of where you work, and -hopefully- when you work.
🤫 Don't tell anyone that TechPays quietly launched a new country: Hungary.
(And work in progress to launch other countries as well looking ahead - like the UK, France and others)
Making compensation in tech a bit more transparent, one step at a time!

Going through tech hiring observations from hiring managers. A surprising one:
In Poland, Big Tech and US startups hiring remote moved the market up so much that some local Polish companies now hire from Asia with visa relocation, because it's cheaper than hiring locally. 🤯
Startup job ad:
- Get shit done
- No waterfall
- Revolutionize banking!
Reality:
- You need to report what you did every day to your manager, in writing
- You’re not allowed to work outside, even when WFH
- No equity
- Non-paid noncompete we’ll try to enforce
I'm excited to announce the launch of Building Mobile Apps at Scale: 39 Engineering Challenges https://t.co/boK0ki0Vpa

What is it about? Here's the table of contents.
Thread on how the book started from a tweet:
Published a detailed video about why software engineering compensation in Europe (and Canada) is becoming increasingly "trimodal".
If you work in software, you might find this model and the reasons behind it interesting.

@artman Another extension of the tax effect is, that taxes in general are high in Europe, so employees also have less money to save to pay for the tax on exercise. Saving money is also, taxed ofcourse :)
@artman As other people pointed out, it is the lack of success stories. More generally, it is a lack of data to perform your own risk assessments as employee. Another problem is taxation, in the Netherlands you pay 50% tax on exercise.
European engs & designers, what are your thoughts on equity?
I’ve been getting the feeling that it’s really not well understood or even appreciated, which is one of the biggest differences to the U.S (where equity is the most important aspect of compensation). Proof me wrong.
