It’s all well and good West Ham saying they would have finished 7th based on the last 17 games, but they didn’t, they finished 18th. Nuno had 33 games and messed up the first half. One of his signings didn’t score, one didn’t start a game.
Nothing more than David Sullivan deserves. Where is Karren Brady’s world class team? Where’s the world class stadium? Utter incompetence has led West Ham to this point
I keep saying it, but get rid of #VAR and let the match referee do the job. Yes, I can see the foul on Raya, but I can also see the foul by Declan Rice, so again it has failed as a system. It creates a false idea of perfection that simply can’t be achieved, and it harms refs.
🚨🎙️| Joe Hart on West Ham’s disallowed equalizer vs Arsenal, accuses VAR of saving Arsenal’s title hopes:
🗣️“Listen, I don’t care what anyone says, that goal should’ve stood. VAR has absolutely ruined moments like that. West Ham fought for that equalizer and somehow they’ve found a way to disallow it for the softest little touch you’ll ever see. If that’s Arsenal scoring at the Emirates, nobody even checks it for more than five seconds.
And this is what frustrates fans, Arsenal have lived off those scrappy, aggressive goals all season. Blocking keepers, crowding the six-yard box, little nudges here and there… suddenly when it happens against them, it’s ‘clear and obvious.’ Give me a break.
I was a goalkeeper, I know when a keeper’s genuinely impeded and when he’s looking for help. There’s no way you can tell me that was enough contact for the goal to be overturned. The game’s gone soft. West Ham have been robbed, simple as that.
You wonder why fans think certain clubs get favourable decisions because moments like this keep happening. Arsenal are in a title race and somehow every 50/50 call seems to land their way. That equalizer changes the whole atmosphere of the game and VAR bottled it. Absolutely bottled it.”
A six-minute VAR delay with 25 replays to decide which of the multiple set-piece wrestling manoeuvres was clearly and obviously worthy of punishment. A fittingly decisive moment for the 2025-26 Premier League season.
Nuno has botched both games this week with inexplicable line-ups. Awful start for him. Already an uphill battle. There is no justifying what he’s done in these games. Pathetic from West Ham again.
Really enjoyed chatting about @thesoccermen on Guardian Football Weekly today.
If you ever wondered whether you could play for San Marino this is where that conversation can lead you!
The doc is in festivals and hopefully will be on a streaming service soon.
It feels like there’s a major sense of dissatisfaction for match-going Premier League fans up and down the country this season. It’s most obvious at Spurs & West Ham but it’s definitely widespread, with fans feeling as though they’re seen by club owners as cash-cows and nothing more.
Ticket prices are going up pretty much everywhere, concessions for OAP’s and U16s are being scrapped or limited and the general atmosphere in stadiums is changing because of it. I say “changing” rather than being damaged because if you exclaim a sense of sadness at the working classes being priced out of watching their team each week, certain people on here will simply suggest you’re attempting to stand in the way of progress.
The Premier League is an outrageously successful product, that success has, by definition raised its profile across the globe and with it, the fervour to secure match tickets from week to week but if you continue to prioritise affluent “customers” over those who follow the clubs from the cradle to the grave, you’re on a way round towards a league that loses its USP.
I’ve spent so many years taking life for granted. I made plans for the next day, the next year, always assuming tomorrow was guaranteed. I’ve seen close friends pass away, witnessed others face near death experiences, and even then, I didn’t fully grasp just how precious life is.
