Spent a few days in Kunming visiting colleagues at Yunnan University and sites of #lakerestoration actions around #Dianchi. Together with @UN_WWQA Ecosytems workstream we are linking a global community of practice on lake restoration issues. @KumpulaScience@GeoHelsinkiUni
Abstracts for #ASLO25 are due Oct 21st.
Please consider submitting an abstract for the session I am co-chairing entitled "SS35 Anthropogenic perturbations of carbon cycling and accumulation in inland waters"

The work moves the field forward in terms of understanding how sediment metal contents can be used as archives of human impacts on the marine environment. All data can be found at https://t.co/AbnP1RoIqu. Mareike defends her PhD at @helsinkiuni on 27 September 👏3/3
This paper is really the culmination of my @SuomenAkatemia Fellowship 2018-2023 and of many years of work by @CarolineSlomp and others to generate #tracemetal data for key human-impacted coastal marine sediment sites in Europe. @GeoHelsinkiUni 1/3
@mareike_paul shows how enrichments of 18 elements including carbon, sulfur and a range of metals and metalloids correlate in sediments across 9 study sites. We can see which elements track direct pollution inputs, and which record other effects such as #deoxygenation. 2/3
So this was #LahtiLakes24. Big thanks to the growing community of #lakerestoration researchers who have helped us to create a leading symposium in the field. Participants from 19 countries across 6 continents made for truly global event 🙏 @GeoHelsinkiUni@LahdenKaupunki
Panel discussion at Lahti Lakes 2024 hosted by @UN_WWQA highlighting the importance of the global coalition of the willing and the community of lake restoration practicioners, with @kirvine_water, Zhengwen Liu, Priyanka Jamwal, Bryan Spears, @mairamucci and @tomjilbert on stage.
