@iabaseball1 You never experienced the field in Andrew. Right field had a cemetery behind it so the fence was just 220 or so. Tall fence but I don’t think you got credit for a home run no matter how far you hit it to right field.
@alex_m_taylor22 I liked the prairie gold (ducks to avoid bullets) but I also got to wyoming in 2003, so I didn’t have connection to the old Gameday gold. The prairie gold was the color of the team when I started following them. That alternate logo ranks among the worst ideas ever conceived.
@CUBuffs He was extremely helpful to me when I was running the Colorado State site in the 2010s. Never said no when I asked for help. He never did anything but smile and help a colleague and cover a school he loved. Put simply - this news stinks.
I played softball against Biitner in the early 2000’s in Storm Lake, Ia. The swing was still sweet. He would look for the young obnoxious kids not paying attention or drinking too much. I was that kid playing first base and caught a line drive an inch from my nose. Point taken.
Back when Chicago was great. Cubs 1978 highlights that include Larry Biittner's game winning home run on the home opener. I played softball with Biittner in 1987. Cigarette butts were all over first base. He was a great guy, may me RIP. Dave Kingman beating out a bunt. Greg Gross throwing a guy out at the plate. Reuschel, Sutter. Dave Rader getting punched by Ellis Valentine, leading to a bench clearing brawl. A sensational catch by Jerry White. Jack Brickhouse with the commentary. A great trip down memory lane. On another note, let's make Illinois great again and flip it red.
@alex_m_taylor22@kyleatkinson13 Also wondered what was going on as we were looking for parking at born in a barn. Then the horn blew and we knew. We knew.
@wyotailgater Not to defend the school, but when I got to wyoming I could tell when the state had money by looking at the facilities. Stuff was clearly built in the 80s then not updated until the gas boom. I am not sure there was a choice e but build when they money came in
@wyotailgater I get the argument. I really do. Facilities used to be a really big deal for recruiting. Less so now. That said, how long could the west side stands have survived without a rebuild? I honestly don’t know.
@ScottDochterman Loved the rivalries series. I'd love to host you for a Wyoming-Colorado State football game one of these years. It's a great thing to behold.
Yup. Had two pair. The Newmans were so good that after I hung up the cleats I would buy the lined coaches gloves to shoot football games in and later in life officiate in them.
