But do you know WHY they have a Soverign wealth fund? It’s because in their prime minister Gro Brundtland made it unlawful to spend the capital receipts from the oil boom. Instead she decreed only the interest could be spent. They were patient and 40 years later they went from poor fishermen to the world’s richest country. Meanwhile our prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, decided to give working people huge tax breaks. That fuelled a consumer boom but now we have little tangible to show for it. We would NEVER think that long term. Even now. And if we had done the same? Well, we’d be far, far richer than Norway.
