@StuartCan_NI@Adrian_Hilton@Rik_w2010 Yes, that headline is particularly poor form from the Telegraph. There's been absolutely no 'revised definition of monarchy'.
The answer to that is that there hasn't been a revised definition of monarchy. That's just media-contrived nonsense. All that's happened is that the Palace has published a piece highlighting the King's support for freedom of religion and religious pluralism (a sentiment expressed many times before by both him and his late mother). There's been no change to his title or his role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England. It's a total non-story.
Today is another great anniversary of you are any kind of liberal. On 25 June 1846 Parliament voted to repeal the Corn Laws, the culmination of an 8 year long mass campaign led by Richard Cobden and John Bright and run from Manchester. Worth recalling what ‘Manchesterism’ meant.
I find it particularly bizarre that those who advocate for the EU Customs Union tend to be critical of the tariffs imposed on the US by Donald Trump. Why is it bad when Trump does it but good when the EU does it? The answer is that they don't actually know what a customs union is. I think they just like that it has the word 'union' in it.
The EU Customs Union doesn't lower prices for consumers. It raises them. That's literally the point of it. The common external tariff exists to raise the prices of imported goods in order to advantage European sellers of goods that would otherwise be more expensive.
Today marks 10 years since the EU referendum.
I asked the Chancellor to commit to a UK-EU customs union, to cut red tape for her farmers, unlock European markets for small businesses, and lower prices for consumers. Will she? Or will it be left to her successor?

@Babymoonwillow@HLConservatives Britain has virtually no impact on climate change. If the UK stopped all carbon emissions tomorrow, the shortfall would be made up within six months. Nothing we do makes any difference.
@K_Niemietz It's also rather telling that she's now openly calling for her political opponents to be censored so that they can't criticise the government (without even a hint of an honourable pretext). She thinks the PM being criticised is his own fault for not abolishing the free press.
No civil servant involvement required. He simply goes to the Palace and advises the King to dissolve Parliament (which His Majesty can't refuse). Labour MPs could then depose him as leader, but it wouldn't stop the general election. It would be stupid of Starmer go to the country (as Labour would lose a lot of seats and he'd be out of power anyway) but no one can stop him from doing it if he wants to.
@JonathanWiltsh7@ClaireCoutinho@Conservatives Considering Britain has virtually no impact on global carbon emissions, the cost would be nothing. If you want to make a difference to climate change, you should be lobbying the governments of China, the United States and India. Nothing the UK does will have any effect.
This business of condemning "trickle-down economics" is so weird. Do lefties think the UK takes a low share of its taxes from the rich, based on some kind of theory that under-taxing the rich makes poorer people better off? Where do they get that idea from?
@afneil Considering David Miliband wouldn't serve in his own brother's shadow cabinet because he thought he was straying too far from Blairism, it seems unlikely that he'll want to be in the cabinet of a potential prime minister who's talking about price caps and rent controls.
You could easily look this up yourself, but the Duchy of Cornwall was established by Edward III in 1337 with the land of the Earldom of Cornwall, which had become extinct, and was bequeathed to the heir apparent. Its existence, and the fact that Prince William owns it, takes nothing away from anyone else. In fact, it contributes massively to the economy and employs a large number of people.
