How will Artificial Intelligence affect the labor market?
We predict that AI will substantially decrease wage inequality ⬇️ while raising wages on average by 21% ⬆️.
These predictions are based on a general equilibrium task-based labor market model that we build, estimate, and apply to the case of AI.
"Simplification" (tasks getting easier) is the key mechanism behind AI's equalizing effect.

@ThisIsZackYoung Exploring total travel time and its productive use would be more interesting.
On a 6-hour train ride, efficient work is possible throughout. But in a 6-hour flight, including transit, security etc, maybe only 2 hours are productive?
Forced to fly home when my heart says train, all because the price says no. This picture says it all.

Plane vs. Train debate in Europe by the FT
@ThisIsZackYoung Door to door, Bcn / Paris takes more or less the same time by train or by plane.
The FT chart only takes into account the "flying time", while we all know that you should at least leave your home something like 2h before landing etc.. So their chart could be improved
