I think you'll need to add an extra Sidekick (so, your PC and 2 Sidekicks), or as you suggest add 2 levels rather than one, or both...

@buttonshy The small, solo RPG A Torch in the Dark is very good indeed - some really nice game mechanics in an RPG which packs an epic game feeling into a small amount of rules/time.
