There is something very funny about the sudden effort by the chuds to recast Troy (2004) - a film which lost out at the box office to Ben Stiller vehicle, Meet the Fockers (2004) - as a cinematic masterpiece the likes of which Christopher Nolan could never match.

@hunterx11 @willmenaker it's unfortunate the movie treated Legolas & Gimli's kill count competition as comic relief braggadocio. Compare to book Legolas after the battle: "You pass my score by one, but I do not grudge you the game, so glad am I to see you on your legs!" Much more heartwarming imo

@gabrielwinant I'd say less "nomadic" than broadly non-cultivators, because you've got e.g. the Lotus-eaters and Cyclopes who stay put but don't cultivate. Though as the journey goes on it's absolutely true that the eater/eaten, predator/prey distinction collapses

Watched The Two Towers this week, teared up during that part where they have to gang press all those poor 12 year olds into service at Helm's Deep. You don't even see that kid who Aragon tells there's still hope to after the battle. Got turned into dog food by the Uruk-hai 😢

as one inexperienced with watching basketball on TV & knowing only a little of legendary Knicks--(from living adjacent to NYC)--what impressed me most about the two games which I'd watched was, beyond even the brilliant teamwork & outstanding athletes on both teams, the indefatigable will, stamina, determination of the ostensibly losing team to just forge forward & concentrate on winning when probably virtually everyone in the arena was assuming that they'd lost. there is a moral here: "never say never."
