For me... watching badminton and football (world cup) is a hobby. I don't comment more than I know, because at best, I'm a casual fan.
I'm happy to see comments from others that I resonate hehe
I hope to be more knowledgeable enough to engage with others :)
๐จ๐ฃ๏ธNew: Thierry Henry on South Korea performance against South Africa and how disappointing they have been after their first game:
After the Czech Republic match, something changed. It was as if the hunger that carried them through that comeback simply evaporated the moment they tasted victory. Football is a game of momentum and mentality. Once they got that result, it felt like complacency crept in like a thief in the night. They stopped playing to win and started playing not to lose. That shift is dangerous at a World Cup, and against South Africa it became fatal.
I was surprised. Genuinely. You donโt leave your best and most experienced player, son on the bench in a game where anything less than a draw could send your World Cup hopes into limbo. Hong Myung-bo said he wanted to use Sonโs freshness against tiring legs later. On paper it sounds clever, but in reality it sent a message.
What message does it send to the dressing room when your leader and talisman isnโt trusted to start a must-not-lose match? Son has been South Koreaโs heartbeat for years. Bench him and youโre not just resting a player โ youโre removing the one man who can drag others with him when things get difficult. And when he came on, he couldnโt find the spark either. That tells me the problem runs deeper than one selection.
The attack looked static. They had quality on the pitch โ Lee Kang-in, Hwang Hee-chan, and later Son โ but there was no cohesion, no clear plan to stretch South Africa or create overloads.
Starting Oh and then bringing Cho Gue-sung on late felt like they were searching for answers rather than having a clear identity.
When your two most natural goal threats are either not starting or making little impact, you have to ask serious questions about how the team is being set up to score. South Korea looked like a team that hoped something would fall their way rather than forcing the issue. At this level, hope is not a strategy.
It adds salt to the wound. South Africa played with belief, organisation, and clinical edge when it mattered. They took their chance. South Korea, with a higher-ranked squad and more individual quality on paper, looked second-best in mentality.
Losing to a team that is writing its own history while you fade into the background is painful. It highlights the gap between talent and performance on the day. South Africa wanted it more in that moment. Thatโs the hardest truth for any fan to accept.
Itโs deeply disappointing because the talent is there. The players are good enough. But somewhere between the first win and the final group game, they lost the edge that makes good teams dangerous. The mistakes in midfield, the loss of confidence, the passive approach โ these are not just tactical issues. They are mental ones.
A team with this much experience should not be hoping for other results to save them as one of the best third-placed teams. They should have controlled their own destiny. Instead, they find themselves in limbo, and that is the direct consequence of playing without the required urgency and conviction when it mattered most.
They need to rediscover their identity and their hunger. Stop overthinking selections and start trusting their best players to lead from the front. Most importantly, they must play every remaining minute like their World Cup depends on it โ because right now, it does. Complacency has already cost them once. They cannot afford to let it happen again.

So we need to see at least 4๏ธโฃ of these scenarios in the groups to play out for Korea to advance to R32 (unless Japan beats Sweden by 2, or Ghana upsets Croatia..that would make it 2๏ธโฃ then).
Iโve put a check to what I consider our best chances:
Group D (โ ):
๐ฆ๐บ must beat ๐ต๐พ | 6.25 10PM EST
Group E (โ ):
๐จ๐ฎ must beat ๐จ๐ผ | 6.25 4PM EST
๐ฉ๐ช must beat ๐ช๐จ | 6.25 4PM EST
Group F (๐):
๐ฏ๐ต must beat ๐ธ๐ช by +2 | 6.25 7PM EST
Group G (โ ):
๐ช๐ฌ must beat ๐ฎ๐ท | 6.26 11PM EST
๐ง๐ช must beat ๐ณ๐ฟ | 6.26 11PM EST
Group H (โ ):
๐ช๐ธ must beat ๐บ๐พ | 6.26 8PM EST
Group I (โ ):
Any result between ๐ฎ๐ถ/๐ธ๐ณ -3 | 6.26 3PM EST
Group J:
๐ฆ๐ท must beat ๐ฏ๐ด | 6.27 10PM EST
๐ฆ๐น must beat ๐ฉ๐ฟ | 6.27 10PM EST
๐ฉ๐ฟ must beat ๐ฆ๐น +2 | 6.27 10PM EST
Group K:
๐บ๐ฟ must D/W ๐จ๐ฉ | 6.27 7:30PM EST
Group L (๐):
๐ฌ๐ญ must beat ๐ญ๐ท | 6.27 5:00PM EST
So we definitely have a shot to get in this again and do our best to redeem our loss to South Africa. ๐
Iโll give a daily rooting guide each day with an update where things stand with Korea each morning. ๐ซก๐ฐ๐ท
Yeah I want them to qualify because they are doing good, not relying on other team doing worse.
I think...I rather them not qualify for next round. Imagine qualifying and do poorly?
Fact is, they played poorly on the last 2 games.
on possibility of advancing to ro32: โidk if i should say this is a shame itโs quite an ironic situationโฆwaiting to see whether we advance or not is not what we wanted. on the efforts the players put in the results werenโt satisfying & thatโs regretful. no matter what result comes out we should just accept itโ
The state of the English commentary pronunciations of Korean names is appalling - justin general but especially at this World Cup. Are these people just guessing? Did they do any research or even watch the pronunciation videos?
Well at least he gets to see Canada playing.
He texted me during extra time lol. We both shit on Korea play today
Oh well.
Absolutely shattered by today's game but South Africa deserves the win
My online friend is Korean Canadian ๐
He's aiming for both Korea and Canada to finish 2nd for their perspective group so he can go watch them live ๐
Sorry friend but ๐คช I want South Korea to win anyways
I just want to get this pet peeve out now and then we can enjoy the soccer.
Matchday 3 of the World Cup should be played in alphabetical order.
No way Groups B and C should finish before Group A today.
That is all. Carry on.
Hmmm feels like South Africa will score at least one goal.
But I don't know, Sonny isn't on the field yet.. anything could happen
Not enjoying South Korea play on the first half.
