@johnredwood and self sufficiency in temperate foods was much lower mid wars, imports from lowcost colonies, slow to rise postwar. Productivity took a big lift in mid 70's on (what happened then?). Look at wheat, we produce most of our own now. Sheep went up, now export most, dead post Bxt

@johnredwood none of what you suggest works any better, in/out of CAP. Self sufficiency in temperate foods is stuck at about 60%, though we export/import lots depending on supplies/yields, flattening price changes, protected by EU tariff regime. Post Bxt zero tariffs on imports kills farming.

@sonduh @herdyshepherd1 @NearlyThere19 you have it upside down. govt have a plan for mainly zero tarrifs on imports (to stop the pr disaster of rising food prices here) with (new) huge tarrifs levied by EU (rules we currently as part of eu have to protect eu farmers) on exports to eu. Economic cliff edge for uk farms

UK to have no import tariffs as terrified of shop price rises, but EU must use tarrifs that before protected NI farms.N'mare story.
