Hipparchus of Rhodes

Oh I just founded trigonometry and invented the astrolabe, wbu?

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Update: I’m halfway through my career (162 - 127 BC) and the Third Punic War is staring😐😠 Honestly guys, couldn’t we have stopped at two?

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

“Astronomy is the first of wisdom”- me🥰

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

So some of y’all have been asking about my astrological sign *remembers I have no definitive birthday* um, I’m an Aries……and definitely not about to have an existential crisis🥲😃

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@_GeorgeSpace_ @TheAristarchus Clearly you haven’t tried our baklava. Or moussaka. Or gyros #uneducated

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@GoldnoseTycho Obviously🙄 Copernicus who?

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@Thelegendcopern @StevenH727770 By hell you obviously mean the Hellenic Republic, which I appreciate, since I’ve answered those prayers😎

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

A happy 2,172nd birthday to my precious child, trigonometry🤩🤩#happybirthday

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@GoldnoseTycho SAME BRO, why does no one get it??

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Don’t you love when you and Saint Nicholas are from the same country (modern-day Turkey?) 🎅

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Raise your hand if you have a lunar crater, asteroid, and an ESA space mission named after you🤚 #didyouknow

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Don’t mind me, I’m just accurately calculating the positions, sizes, and orbits of the Sun, Moon, and other various planets

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Cassius needs to stop sacking Rhodes, all I’m tryna do is live out a peaceful retirement😭

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

tfw your hometown can resist attacks from the Umayyad Caliphate AND survive three major earthquakes

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@StevenH727770 Pretty sure you wouldn’t have been able to prove any of your theories without trig, so…

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

I wrote 14 books, all of which would be used to further astronomical studies and were referenced by Ptolemy and Aratus🙃

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@TheAristarchus Honestly🙄

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

All these Romans taking over nations and martyring Christians is making it super hard to focus on writing my books😥

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Just thinking about how I discovered the precession of equinoxes, which had never been done before😊

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@_edwinhubble You mean you were a functioning alcoholic? I see the resemblance

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

@HSwan1868 Says the woman who couldn’t win the Nobel Prize bc she had already died #rip

[Hipparchus of Rhodes @toohipptoquit]

Imagine not having an official death date so you (aka I) ✨technically✨ never died
