So first off, the new Uk immigration policy is more partisan than it speaks to a national/ economic issue.

Conservatives are generally against “immigration” no matter how they try to deny or vitiate this. With a GDP of over $3 trillion, and a Population of 67 million people, UK doesn’t have the requisite skilled and Unskilled workers to keep wages low & by extension inflation hence encouraging immigration is actually the most sensible economical decision.

UK said they have brought in 10 million immigrants since early 2000, but they won’t admit that average inflation rate has been 2.5%. Inflation in the UK rose to 11% last October due to post Covid crisis/war in Ukraine but also due to supply chain disruption which immigration seeks to correct.
Let’s also not forget that the buffer that the European market created for UK isn’t there due to BREXIT, leaving UK’s economy in a more precarious state.

I can go on but let me stop there. Should UK Go on with this new policy and their immigration stance, they will be forced to open their border in <5years.
This policy to me is more of a partisan posture to their base than speaking to an actual national issue as it makes no economic sense.
