Today we remember Officer Clarence L. “Boots” Shields.
On April 11, 1955, Officer Shields lost his life when he responded to a burglary.
Officer Shields served on the Topeka Police Department for 6 years and in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He was survived by his wife, a 2-year-old daughter and an 8-week-old son.
We thank Officer Shields for his service, and we honor him and his family for their sacrifice.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ted Ensley who passed away March 9, 2023.
Mr. Ensley was Shawnee County’s first parks and recreation superintendent. Hired in 1961, he spent 31 years in the position, making Shawnee County a better place to live.
20 yrs ago, the @NLBMuseumKC recruited an All-Star roster of artists to create SHADES OF GREATNESS: Art Inspired by Negro Leagues Baseball. The amazing show is on display thru May 7 at the @TopekaLibrary. I’ll present at the Library tomorrow at 12 pm. @cityoftopeka@VisitTopeka
This chilly weather didn’t stop TFD Stations 9, 10, and 11 from participating in their annual technical rescue training at @Fritolay. TFD is always training to strengthen skills to better serve the community.
This afternoon, Senator @JerryMoran announced that TPD and the @ShawneeSheriff are recipients of a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. We'd like to thank Senator Moran for his support of law enforcement in Topeka and Shawnee County and his work serving the state of Kansas.
Tonight just after 10:15pm a Police Canine Officer and his Canine Partner were on duty and on patrol in the area of Truman Rd and Benton Blvd when their patrol car was struck by another vehicle. The collision caused a secondary impact with a pedestrian.
This week’s #BlackHistoryMonth spotlight is on Community Police Officer (CPO) Bryan Stricklin.
Thank you to Officer Stricklin for his service and commitment to our community and the country!
Today, we recognize 2 TFD firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice & lost their lives in the line of duty. William R. Frazier & Silas Brown served at Station 3 in the first half of the 20th century & were honored by @IAFFofficial Fallen FF Memorial in Colo. Springs in 2015.
