There are tens of thousands of empty hotel rooms in NYC and tens of thousands sleeping in crowded shelters or on the streets during a pandemic.
Open the hotels to house New Yorkers because #HomelessCantStayHome.
(And #CancelRent and invest in permanent affordable housing)
LIVE NOW: New Yorkers at risk for infection & illness in crowded shelters demand immediate access to 30,000 of 100,000 empty NYC hotel rooms.
Elected officials& allies on in support — I’ll discuss $50B+ available now to pay for it

Since COVID19 began @NYCMayor & @NYGovCuomo have been silent month on the topic of homelessness.
Even as a public health crisis unfolds in NYCs shelters and on the streets.

As we demand a moratorium on #evictions in light of #COVID19, let's also remember poor and low-wealth people who are still routinely kicked out of their homes without any court process at all. My thoughts on one recent 3/4 house case: #EndIllegalEvictions#homelessness
“Look at all of the families that are still together. Look at all of the people that have not lost their homes like me. I was locked up for 18 months!” —Darryl Herring

WATCH: “We have come too far. We will not go back to the dark ages. If you don’t like it, we voted you in, we will vote you out!”
Darryl Herring, leader & victim of a racist bail system.

Darryl spent 18 months in jail after being arrested for something he didn't do. The Bronx DA withheld discovery in his case. Once it was turned over, the case was immediately dismissed. As District Attorneys try to undermine the new reforms, Darryl is in Albany telling his story.

Yes! @crackdownpod digs into “how the overdose crisis & housing crisis combine to make one ‘clusterfuck’ of misery & injustice.” #Tenants organize to demand justice in court & at city council to overcome landlord fraud & extortion, illegal eviction, rats, underpaid labor, & more.
A huge victory for 3/4 house tenants! “Unlawful evictions, such as when a landlord illegally locks out or uses force to evict a tenant, would become a misdemeanor punishable by a civil penalty of $1,000 to $10,000 per violation.”
Advocates from #HouseOurFutureNY, incl. homeless men & women, urge @NYCMayor to commit 24K newly constructed apts (& 30K overall) to homeless NYers. Ms. Flowers of @VOCALNewYork: "It's on you, Bill!”

How it looks when 1,500+ tenants (and growing) rally in Albany to demand #UniversalRentControl, with all 9 tenant bills passing *this year*!
