I'm not leaving Twitter, which some of you call X, just yet...but I am however planning to slowly transition over to BlueSky over the coming weeks/months, as I don't agree with the values of the site's new owner.
My handle there is the same as it is here, @torenwx.
6 hours in:
Still 2 likes on Twitter
15 likes on BlueSky
I'm literally getting 7.5 times more likes on my posts on BlueSky than on Twitter, with ~1/10th the number of followers. If that's not being shadow-blocked, I don't know what is!
25 minutes in, and I have:
2 likes on Twitter
7 likes + 1 comment on BlueSky
And that's with:
979 followers on Twitter
79 on BlueSky
I suppose that, as I'm pro-Ukraine and anti-trump, I have been shadow-banned from Twitter?
Work from @dasoglab students in @CBCNS news this morning! Check out their $5/unit solar powered simultaneous desalination and purification system that floats on a recycled tire base in Halifax harbour.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world global warming didn't exist, by adding sulphur to fossil fuels, temporarily masking much of the warming.
@StephTaitWrites Yup. Someone who's nice in one setting (for example in public) and mean in another (for example, online or at home)...
...is a mean person. It's the definition of a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Incredible. Hurricane #Rafael is now just the SECOND Major Hurricane ever recorded in the Gulf of Mexico in the month of November, joining Hurricane Kate from 1985. Re-attaining Category 3 intensity after making landfall in Cuba on Wednesday, Rafael has stunningly achieved 120 mph winds and a core pressure of 956 mbar over the persistently energized waters of the Loop Current. Fortunately, very strong wind shear and wall-like steering currents will prevent this ominous cyclone from making landfall in the United States.

Will be curious to see if #Rafael is back up to major hurricane intensity when @53rdWRS arrives this evening. The pressure was starting to fall when the last plane left, and the satellite presentation is increasing, with raw ADT values from @UWCIMSS up to ~105 kt. New CBs are rotating around what looks like a solid, large eye - I could see this being a Category 3 again.
@_celia_bedelia_ Pretty sure they're looking for a group of "others" that they can coercively control.
The "others" could be women, immigrants, Blacks, Aboriginals...or even other white dudes who don't meet their own narrow standards of what it means to be a man.
Many are now saying that it is too late to ramp up production for Ukraine. This is only partially true. It is correct that we squandered 2.5 years with doing almost nothing, but we have assets to react almost instantly.
What we can do right now is assembling a force which moves into Ukraine. In German we would call this "Sperrverband" (Blockade force). It does not have to be even big, at least not in the beginning, but it should comprise of almost all European countries, NATO/EU and non-NATO/non-EU alike.
The mission statement of that force is as follows:
- Securing the entire air space West of the Dnipro river and neutralizing any enemy aerial vehicles, in the same way we do it for Israel when it comes to Iran
- Securing critical infrastructure such as power plants, transmitter stations and power lanes and launching repair operations across the country
- Relieving all Ukrainian combat forces in those sectors and enabling them to be re-deployed to Ukraine's East, including their air defense assets such as Patriot batteries.
- Preventing any refugee streams from happening, by starting reconstruction programs and ensuring safety
On the political/economic side the following measures must be taken:
- Extend all sanctions against Russia on embargo level and close all loopholes in the sanction regime
- Launch mass production in munition factories across Europe by repurposing workers from struggling Western companies and sending them into the military industrial complex.
- Supply Ukraine with potent long-range missiles such as Tomahawks and TAURUS and remove all restrictions
- Extend all defense budgets of EU countries and make them mandatory to be at a level of at least 4%. Countries who miss the quote, pay with their share from the EU budget.
- Increase spending if necessary using new debts and cut social security programs down to a bare minimum which harm European economies (e.g. Bürgergeld in Germany). Deport illegals who do not contribute to the economy or are criminals.
- Energy production across Europe must be focused on efficiency for the remainder of this war and beyond. That includes nuclear technology. Renewable energy is still preferable to be used, but not at the cost of our defense capabilities.
- Inform China, India and other countries that any violation of that sanction regime will be met with swift sanctions against the companies in those countries, including the banks which facilitated that.
- Removing all Russian embassy members (spies) and leave only the ambassador and one aide who can pick up the phone. Diplomatic ties down to almost zero, but keeping an ear open.
The list is not complete, but this is just the beginning.
We are at war and it is irrelevant, whether we like it or not. We have to win this war and I would prefer to do this with Ukraine 80% still free and more than 30 million Ukrainians at our side. If we don't do this, then we might have not only to bear millions of refugees but an emboldened and strengthened Russia, which will certainly invade our lands. We cannot avoid confrontation, but we can face it to our terms and in a favorable fashion. This is our last chance.
#Rafael did in fact rapidly intensify overnight, and is pushing towards major hurricane status as it approaches landfall in Cuba. It’s currently attempting to clear a small eye, with cold and still somewhat asymmetric CBs rotating around the eyewall.
These two images look vaguely familiar...
I wonder if reduction in SO2 emissions from shipping off China has allowed the North Pacific to warm up, forcing troughing over BC and ridging over Eastern Canada?
@bfry1981 I wonder if a major demographic that was pro-trump was young men living in their mother's basements playing video games all day, who believed that trump would make the world their oyster, but didn't want to admit to being a trump supporter for fear of being kicked out.
