@ScriptTrooper M&G underperformed - no doubt - but the general audience has always known the difference between the big Episode films and the spinoffs. The box office dipped for RO and Solo while all the Episode films made over a billion. Plus, M&G just couldn’t shake the TV movie criticism.
@ERCboxoffice The ROTS rerelease earned 30M in one weekend last year. The SW Special Edition did 140M in 1997. M&G is at 165M. The theatrical version of Star Wars, w/a moderate promotion campaign, could very realistically earn more than M&G.
@CultureCrave I’m a SW fanboy through and through - and I know this was an original script for theatrical - but the movie felt incredibly small. No real co-stars. No side quests. Just a handful of fight scenes.
@bestofstarwar TFA was a sequel to ROTJ featuring - or at least advertised - the original cast. M&G was a movie based on a streaming show. It underperformed but it was never going to do TFA numbers. It was never even going to do ROTS or RO numbers. The bar was to beat Solo - which it couldn’t.
@stevebyrnelive@TheInSneider Cool. That must be important to hockey fans. I’m a basketball fan and like seeing people have fun. Everyone is getting what they want.
@TatooineSons The force, lightsabers, and Jedi were only one part of a bigger story in the original movie. We have almost too much focus on jedis and the force. I’m hungry for more space battles, gun fights, and heists.
@michaelkpate@TatooineSons Not at the box office but it will crawl to profitability through digital sales, home video sales, cable and broadcast rights, and then ad revenue on Disney+.
@ahoyyyy48209 The frustrating thing is nothing is in production at the moment. So we are looking at another pause after Starfighter. The next film would need to be filming now in order to be released in 2028.
