Kenyan entertainer DJ Macdee has successfully tracked down and recovered his stolen Ksh 280,000 Pioneer DJM-S11 mixer, only to be hit with a shocking twist involving the police.
The high-end equipment was broken into and stolen from his car on July 7th. After spotting it being advertised online a month later, Macdee partnered with officers from the Mugutha Police Station to launch a sting operation. The trail led them to arrest a suspect, DJ Mkenia, who ultimately escorted the team to a residence in Parklands owned by Shah Ashish. Inside the house, the mixer was recovered alongside a massive stash of other suspected stolen electronic goods, including TVs, speakers, and generators.
However, the breakthrough has been marred by controversy. DJ Macdee discovered that the primary suspect, Shah Ashish, was mysteriously released on cash bail by the Mugutha OCS at midnight without his knowledge. The DJ is now publicly calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure transparency and answers as to why a key suspect was released in the dead of night.
Born in 1962 in the land of a thousand hills of Mugoiri, Murang’a District, Jane Nyambura better known to the world as Queen Jane was destined for greatness. Born as the firstborn of Chief Sospeter Ciira Githambo and Teresia Wangeci, her roots were firmly planted in a region that have produced a constellation of Kikuyu music stars, including Kamau Wa Nathan, Eddy Sofa, Nephat Nduati, Dennis Mutara, Princess Aggie, Lady Wanja, Dr. Michuki, Jorum Kiiru, and Kihara wa Zipporah, among others.
Jane’s early education saw her pass through Murarandia and Elburgon Primary Schools, later proceeding to Lioki Secondary School, laying a normal society approved foundation for a young girl before fate pulled her towards music amid chagrin of village folks but with her family's approval.
After high school, she briefly worked in Nairobi. But 1982 proved to be a turning point. Together with her sister, Princess Aggie, Jane joined the campaign entourage as music composers and performers of their uncle, John Michuki, who was contesting the Kangema parliamentary seat. Also, in the entourage was rising star Simon Kihara, better known as Musaimo, who had already composed captivating campaign songs for Michuki.
Musaimo, recognizing the sisters’ raw talent, invited them to Nairobi and into the professional music arena. Upon returning to Nairobi, Musaimo brought the two sisters under his wing and into his band. He composed their first-ever song, “Mwana wa Ndigwa”, recorded in 1984, now featuring Queen Jane, Princess Aggie, and Lady Wanja. The song became a hit, receiving massive airplay and launching both Musaimo and Jane into stardom.
Riding on this success, the trio formed the Kihara Sisters, a sub-unit of the renowned Mbiri Young Stars. Though in high demand and invited to appear in other groups such as Karura Sisters, Chania Sisters, and Rwengo Sisters, their collaborations remained selective; Jane voiced in the sequel track “Mama Ciru”, which became another huge success. It earned her popular sobriquet “Mama Ciru”, later evolving into “Queen ya Musaimo” a second moniker she earned after recording her first self-written song of the same title.
“Queen ya Musaimo”, became so popular that Jane felt empowered to chart her own course as a solo artist, her confidence grew, and with it, her desire to blaze her own trail in the male dominated industry and thats why in 1991, Queen Jane made an audacious decision to part ways with Mbiri Young Stars and launched a solo career alongside her siblings; Princess Aggie (vocals and songwriting), Dr. Michuki (guitar), Michael Nyaga (management)and later joined by Lady Wanja, she founded Queenja Les Les, a band that would redefine Kikuyu music.
The ensemble debuted with “Ndorogonye”, produced and arranged by Them Mushrooms, which did so well though rebranding was a challenge, fans still remembered her as “Mama Ciru” or “Queen ya Musaimo.”In 1992, she was awarded Most Promising Artist of the year, a nod that validated her transformation into Queen Jane in the following year, she released “Mwendwa KK”, a runaway success that sold in the thousands, eventually winning Song of the Year (1993).
Operating mainly from Githurai suburbs, Queenja Les Les, under Jane’s guidance, attracted and nurtured an impressive array of musical talent. Her team Dr. Michuki and M. Nyaga played a key role in discovering and recruiting talents the likes of Mike Murimi (rhythm guitarist), Salim Junior (multi-instrumentalist), Mike Rua (bass guitarist), Kamau Mapengo (drums), Kaka, and vocalists Ciru, JJ Gitahi, and Evans Demethew.
It is particularly noteworthy that under Queen Jane’s disciplined leadership, Queenja Les Les was admired for its tight-knit structure and professionalism. The band dominated the 1990s, securing lucrative marketing deals and leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
The Constitution is unequivocal. It DOES NOT not permit ANY verification, re tallying or confirmation of presidential election results after they have been declared by the Constituency Returning Officer.
Articles 86(b) and (c), together with Article 138(2) and 138(3)(c), establish the polling station and the constituency as the only constitutional venues for counting, tallying, verification and declaration of presidential results.
Article 138(10) assigns the @IEBCKenya Chairperson a purely ministerial function. The Chairperson must aggregate the 290 constituency results exactly as received, without altering a single vote, and only confirm whether a candidate has attained the constitutional threshold under Article 138(4).
Section 39 of the Elections Act, particularly Section 39(1C)(b), and Regulation 83(2) purport to create a National Tallying Centre with powers to tally and verify presidential results. Those provisions introduce an extra constitutional process that the Constitution neither creates nor permits.
This unlawful expansion of power has been at the heart of the presidential election disputes of 2013, 2017 and 2022.
The Constitution provides a complete code. Verification ends at the constituency. The National Tallying Centre has no constitutional mandate to re tally, re verify or confirm results. Its role is limited to the mathematical aggregation of constituency results and confirmation of the Article 138(4) threshold.
Tucker Carlson once asked Putin about Nord Stream, and Putin’s answer was basically that when something serious happens, you look at who had the motive, the interest and the actual capability to make it happen.
That is exactly why Mohamed Amin should have stayed quiet on Gachagua. Once the DCI boss personally starts answering a politician in public, he unnecessarily puts himself and the institution inside the political story.
If Gachagua has committed an offence, investigate him quietly, build the file and take it to court. The moment Amin starts debating him in public, people naturally start asking why the country’s top detective is so personally invested in what one politician is saying.
Amin walked into Rigathi's trap today....
Your arithmetic is not the point of disagreement. In fact, it demonstrates why the constitutional question arises.
You correctly identify that the fifth year runs from 9 August 2026 to 8 August 2027.
Now identify the constitutional date.
The second Tuesday in August 2026 was 11 August 2026. That date falls squarely within the fifth year.
The second Tuesday in August 2027 is 10 August 2027. By then, the fifth year has already ended on 8 August 2027, and 10 August 2027 falls in the sixth year.
That is why the Constitution says "the second Tuesday in August in every fifth year." It does not say "the second Tuesday in August after five years" or "upon the expiry of five years."
So the issue is not mathematics it is fidelity to the constitutional text. Once you accept that the fifth year runs from 9 August 2026 to 8 August 2027, the only second Tuesday in August that falls within that fifth year is 11 August 2026. The second Tuesday in August 2027 ; 10 August 2027 falls in the sixth year, not the fifth.
In 1956, the Ugandan National football team, Cranes, toured Britain to play local teams. Against their wishes, the team was forced to wear boots in the opening game, losing 10-1 to Wycombe Wanderers. They refused to wear boots again, playing the rest in their default barefoot.
Yet that's not the most interesting bit.
At the end of the tour, several members of the squad went missing including a referee & member of the bench. One of those men was a player by the name, Jekeri p'Bitek, a consummate footballer, the inspiration behind my name, & the prolific writer we know today as Okot p'Bitek. He had escaped to the city of Bristol, applied for a diploma in Education at Bristol University, and secured admission.
He later pursued law degree, commenced barrister training but quit halfway to study cultural anthropology. That man would later give us what I consider to be the best African literary production of all time in "Song of Lawino".
Okot returned to Uganda in 1964, lecturing in Makerere University before transitioning to many other universities across East Africa, including The University of Nairobi, where many will recall the iconic Jaguar he drove.
It is my hope that these "escapees" will use their time in Britain productively as Okot did, and thus afford us a myriad of wonders from their sojourn in the land of the English men.
And women.
ANOTHER DEATH IN POLICE CUSTODY 🛑
His name is Gideon Makau Mbandi, alias " Maiyu" a 45-year-old matatu operator working with Trinity Sacco.
Mr Mbandi was arrested at the evening hours of Tuesday 4th August 2026, at his business premises in Nunguni Shopping Centre on allegations that he was in possession of a panga and was detained at Kilungu Police Station.
The family later received information the following day through a friend that Mr Mbandi died under police custody and his body had been taken to Kilungu Sub County Hospital Mortuary by police.
The family reports that they were asked to report to the police station only to be informed that Mr Makau had allegedly died by suicide after using his trousers while inside the police cells.
The family is seeking answers on how is it possible to commit suicide using a trouser in a police cell in the presence of other accused persons, why the police rushed to take his body to the morgue without the knowledge of the family and since when did possessing a panga become a crime warranting arrest?
What was the rush for? What was police hiding?
@IPOA_KE , the family of Mr Makau is calling for independent investigations into this matter
