One of the most iconic moments and epic comebacks in the history of the game of hockey. Canada down 5-3 going into the 3rd period of Game 8. TV’s wheeled into classrooms. 54 years ago today! 🇨🇦
Rock band KISS made their chaotic prime-time television debut on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, which aired on ABC on October 29, 1976.
TV was not ready for this.

On this day in 1986
Mike Modano had three goals and an assist, while Pat Elynuik dished out a trio of helpers to lead the Prince Albert Raiders to an 8-2 home win over the Brandon Wheat Kings
Chad Silver scored both goals for the visitors
John Schneider walked out to the mound today to take the ball from Max Scherzer.
Scherzer would not give it to him.
He stood there and refused, in front of 42,131 people, at 42 years old, in what might be the last game he ever pitches.
An inning later he finally came off.
He hugged his manager on the walk in. Then he went past the dugout, climbed up into the stands, and found his family.
That is the picture everybody is sharing tonight.
Here is what he did before it.
Seven innings. Six hits. One run. One walk. Seven strikeouts. 114 pitches.
He got the win. The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-1 in the last game of the regular season.
When he first walked out to start the game, the whole building stood up. Scherzer stepped off the rubber and waved at them. They did it again when he came off.
And the part that makes it hit harder is that this was the worst year of his career. He went 3-9 with a 6.14 ERA in 17 starts. Nothing worked. He is 42 and his arm is 42.
Then he went out on the last day and gave them seven innings and would not hand over the baseball.
The career is one of the best anybody has had.
Three Cy Young Awards. 2013 in the American League, then 2016 and 2017 in the National League. Two World Series rings, with the Washington Nationals in 2019 and the Texas Rangers in 2023. More than 3,500 strikeouts.
Two no hitters, and both of them came in the same summer. In June 2015 he was one out from a perfect game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit a batter. In October he struck out 17 New York Mets and did not let a single one of them reach base.
There is one more thing worth knowing about this weekend.
From 2010 to 2014, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander were the front of the same rotation in Detroit. Five years together with the Detroit Tigers, the two best arms on the same staff.
Yesterday in Detroit, Verlander made the final start of his career. His 7 year old daughter Genevieve sprinted out to the mound to take the ball from him, and he went to his knees and sobbed.
Today Scherzer would not let go of it.
Two men who threw for the same team for five years, walking off two days apart, and you could not script two more different exits.
One of them cried.
One of them fought.
And Scherzer is not saying he is done.
"We don't need to make a decision today. Get to the offseason and just see how things unfold."
Which is exactly the answer you would expect from a man who just refused to leave a mound.
Why I love baseball.
Justin Verlander walks off the mound in tears as his 7-year-old daughter comes out to get him, then heads down the tunnel with his wife and kids.
Field of Dreams in real life.
what a career. if this doesn’t move you, I don’t know what will ❤️⚾️
A builder in every sense of the word.
The Edmonton Elks organization mourns the loss of Norm Kimball, who passed away on Friday. There are few people who have had as big an impact on the Double E as Norm. He served as the Club’s general manager from 1966 to 1985, winning six Grey Cups in the process.
We offer our condolences to Norm’s friends and family. His legacy won’t be forgotten.
