These are Awka made guns, locally manufactured during the Biafra War. They were used to support the Biafran war effort.

Do you know that when the war ended in 1970, the Nigerian government reportedly arrested hundreds of blacksmiths in Awka because they believed these men had helped build the guns used during the Biafra War?

The government reportedly saw their ability to manufacture weapons as a threat, fearing that another conflict could occur and that these blacksmiths might once again provide weapons.

Till today, the government has restricted blacksmiths in Awka from manufacturing firearms and has reportedly refused to grant them licenses to produce them.
