I'm often asked, "What bounce should I play?"
The answer is always player and course-dependent. Happy to chat thru your setup in DMs. But a broad recommendation here would be like trying to suggest a t-shirt.
So, I'll just share how I think about it:
—
My situation:
>variety of courses & firmness
>chip with many clubs
>hate to change wedges
My setup:
1. Gap Wedge = Mid Bounce
2. Sand Wedge = Mid Bounce
>Matched bounce, consistent for full swings
>Versatile for bumps, standard pitches & chips
>Useful for longer bunker shots. Take more sand, play more roll.
3. Lob Wedge = Low Bounce
>Versatile for tight lies, lobs, and flops
>Open face maintains low leading edge
>Useful for soft bunker shots. Take less sand, generate more spin.
And, proper gear junkies will have course-dependent bench players in the garage. My go-to:
4. Extra Lob Wedge = Lowest Bounce, Heel Relief
>Versatile in the tightest, firmest lies
>Very low leading edge, even when opened
>For your British Isles buddies trip, or other firm courses
