MYTH vs. FACT

One of the biggest misconceptions about Type 1 Diabetes is that a high blood sugar reading means someone did something wrong.

The reality is far more complex.

Blood sugar is influenced by so much more than food. Stress, hormones, illness, exercise, sleep, medications, and even everyday life can all affect glucose levels. Sometimes, despite doing everything “right,” the numbers still don’t cooperate.

For those living with T1D, every glucose reading is information not a measure of effort or success.

The more we understand what life with Type 1 Diabetes really looks like, the more we can replace judgment with empathy and support.

If you live with T1D, remember this: your blood sugar is data, not your worth.

Every advancement in Type 1 Diabetes care begins with research and with people willing to participate.

The University of Florida Diabetes Research Program is currently enrolling participants for several clinical studies focused on preserving insulin production, improving glucose management, understanding the immune system, and exploring new approaches to treating and preventing Type 1 Diabetes.

Studies are available for different age groups and stages of T1D, including individuals who have been recently diagnosed and some who may be at increased risk.
Research isn’t the right choice for everyone, but learning about available opportunities is an important first step.

By participating in clinical research, individuals and families can help advance the future of Type 1 Diabetes care while contributing to discoveries that may benefit generations to come.
