With World Car Free Day on the horizon (9/22), it’s important for us to recognize the environmental impact our vehicles have but to also shed light on the non-car alternatives available in our communities! #WakeUPCarFree

Hello world. Let me reintroduce myself. I am Doctor Heikes (hi-kiss)! It hasn't sunk in yet, but I did it! I'm really proud of defending, and keeping my infant alive at the same time. Mom guilt was real, but I am setting an example for my baby ☺ #momademia#breastfeedinginSTEM
Oof. Great article, but not the "top 10" list you want to be on as a city. Especially since Walkscore is primarily based on proximity to things like groceries, parks, etc. and doesn't account for the quality of sidewalks or whether they even exist https://t.co/Y1eGZtEMhk
Was doing some research last night. The true cost of car ownership is over 10k per year. Imagine the blanket savings if we had more neighborhoods that enabled more families to become 1 car households.
@DurhamNCStreets @heyschmade Probably not quite what you are looking for, but there is a nifty app for reporting blocked crossings https://t.co/iIj0oJW6rA
Important info! Please stay safe as you wait for your bus and take advantage of Durham Library cooling centers!
While inside, you can track your bus on Transloc and/or Google maps!
@citybeautiful21@geoff_green And don't get me wrong I was a big time cookout fan while in school, but it's going to be quite the traffic snarl, especially with only a single drive through lane.
@citybeautiful21@geoff_green There was interest in redeveloping that site as ~ 200 apartments. However, the areas 1-4, south of Elliot, were removed from the rezoning in 2014. Now the irony is that Cookout will have far more impact then the 200 apartments would have.
@Breck_Maynokur @JessaleeL I live in a townhouse with a one car garage and no driveway/street spots. My family made the decision to go with one car in exchange for better ability to walk/bike/ride transit. I suspect there are lots of other folks out there who would like to have that kind of choice.
@Breck_Maynokur @JessaleeL Granted that does not take into account differences in number of bedrooms, another important factor. Maybe I'll update my spreadsheet in the near future
@Breck_Maynokur @JessaleeL I did a back of the envelope calculation of a few years back of projects approved in Downtown (maybe 2016-2018) and found that the average spaces built per home was about 1.25 whereas the minimum most elsewhere is two per home.
🧵 - Building more housing is one of the best (but far from the only necessary) policy response to moderate housing prices. As indicates by this robust @ApartmentList analysis a healthy vacancy rate correlates with slower rent growth. https://t.co/FCPTKSB3oE
With Meta planning a Durham office, the triangle is rapidly becoming one of the absolute top tech spots in the US. The region sits at a crossroads — will it leverage new insights in city planning and build build build, or will it follow the SF path and price out all but the rich?
