Pete Pihosโ 1946 season included a thigh injury and a throat infection. So naturally he played:
Fullback.
Halfback.
Quarterback.
And finished his Indiana career by scoring three touchdowns against Purdue. Football used to have some very strange definitions of โrest.โ
TOUGH GUY LORE ๐ฅ: Pete Pihos
Before Pete Pihos became an Indiana Football legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer, he served in World War II.
Pihos earned a battlefield promotion while serving with Pattonโs 35th Infantry Division.
Then he came back to Bloomington.
And helped Indiana go undefeated and win the 1945 Big Ten Championship.
Different era. Different kind of tough.

TOUGH GUY LORE ๐ฅ: Nolan Ryan
August 4, 1993. Robin Ventura gets hit by a Nolan Ryan pitch and decides to charge the mound.
One problem: Nolan Ryan was waiting for him.
The 46-year-old Ryan put the 26-year-old Ventura in a headlock and started throwing punches.
Ryan stayed in the game.
Ventura was ejected.
Maybe donโt charge Nolan Ryan.
