I was traveling by train today, and this guy sitting near me was making a lot of noise. He was shouting "Gobhi-Gobhi" every now and then, and spewing venom against a group of co-passengers in the next compartment.

I was patient for sometime. I thought he'd be done with his antics soon. But he just went on and on.

When I couldn't take it anymore I put on my headphones, closed my eyes and started listening to music in order to avoid his noise.

After a while, he tapped my shoulder. I paused the song I was listening to, and gestured to ask him what happened.

He said, "Why are you not listening to me? This is a democracy. I have freedom of speech."

"Please continue speaking," I said politely. "I'm not stopping you. But like you said, this is a democracy. I too have the right to not listen."

I'm not sure why he didn't say anything after that.
