@MendezMovieRPT I was surprised by how certain he seemed that Inde Navarrete will receive a Best Actress nomination. Itβs certainly possible, but I donβt know how anyone could be that confident, especially given what happened with Chase Infiniti last year.
@LCJReviews Agreed. Not sure why experts @GoldDerby expect this to get BP, Screenplay, & Best Actress nominations. It seems that many took the wrong lessons from recent horror victories and forgot that box office records will only increase visibility not Oscar legitimacy.
@mrbrianrowe It's possible, but it depends on the competition. I doubt Navarrette gets in, and Best Picture may be a stretch too. Screenplay feels like the most likely "acknowledgment." Box office boosts visibilityβit doesn't automatically translate into Oscar legitimacy.
@Duhlorean98 Best Picture nomination predictions for Obsession are premature. Most of the competition hasn't surfaced yet, and many assume its box office and cultural impact will overcome every obstacle. Maybeβbut the discourse feels ahead of the reality of the race.
@mrbrianrowe As of now, I don't think it will get any nominations. Nearly every recent horror contender has benefited from established talent within the production. Even Get Out is an imperfect comparison due to Peeleβs comedy fame & Daniel Kaluuya was more established than Inde Navarrette.
@Robertdoc1984@mrbrianrowe Being Focus's #1 priority helps, but doesn't guarantee a nomination. Obsession's box office and cultural impact are doing much of the heavy lifting. Whether that can overcome the lack of prestige markers that helped recent horror contenders remains to be seen.
@drrrewwwskkki@FilmBitch16_RPX I just watched that Tales From The Crypt episode recently and was struck by the similarities to Obsession. That story also had a better ending imo b/c the guy didn't escape accountability unlike Bear in Obsession.
@mrbrianrowe Brian should know better than this. You never get a nomination or win based solely on your performance and Inde Navarrette lacks the veteran status of Madigan & Moore.
@GiteshPandya This is especially hilarious given the amount of effort the trades invested in putting a positive spin on the opening weekend box office results.
@Luiz_Fernando_J How is this a shocking turn of a events? Who's talking about this movie? Obsession is turning into a cultural event while MANDO is just a streaming movie pretending to be necessary.
@Luiz_Fernando_J If you had told me 2 weeks ago that MANDO could risk ending up grossing less than #TheDevilWearsPrada2 in the US, I would have said you're probably right. MANDO is a streaming movie pretending to be a genuine theatrical release...π€·πΎ
@GiteshPandya As I previously stated, Disney thought they were cute with that $100M 4-day estimate knowing full well that wasn't going to happen. Still...it's surprising that many people paid expensive theater ticket prices for such an obvious streaming movie.
@ScottMendelson@LeaveHeardAlone This is giving Black Adam way too much credit. The genre simply peaked with Avengers Endgame and Marvel diluted their brand with questionable amount of Disney+ content.
@DiscussingFilm It'll be interesting to see how this performs in theaters. Why pay for an expensive movie ticket when you can watch prank videos on YouTube or TikTok all day long for free???
@EmpireCityBO@michaelmovie The fact that you have to write this is quite sad and saids alot about our polarizing film culture. This should go without saying...π
