A selection of facts, figures & photographs relating to The Dragons amazing rise up The Pyramid and sad decline over more recent years.
An independent account.
Jeff Welsh left as 1st team boss in March after a 1-2 loss to Halesworth Town. Nearly 6 weeks after the end of the season there's still no news of his replacement. A worrying time for Dragons fans as we move into the Summer & pre-season looms. Does anyone actually want the job?
Wivenhoe were last in the Border Lge. in 1985/86 - 40 years ago. In the last 19 seasons they have fallen from the Isthmian Lge. Div. 1 North back to the Border Lge.
(with 1 promotion in 2015/16). 4 relegations & numerous reprieves later they are back there. Let that sink in....
@StevePitt3@wivenhoetown_fc It's been a slow, steady decline on the pitch mate. The time has come when the 2 people running the club need to stand aside to allow new blood in to breath some life into it. Step 7 was indeed unthinkable 20 years ago. It shows where the club could go to in the right hands.
I recall Rovers being in the Border Lge. in the 1990's & Wivenhoe in the Isthmian Lge. Whilst The Dragons now rot at the bottom of E.C.L. Div. 1 (Border Lge.??) Rovers progress up The Pyramid ππ
Jealous? Yes. Angry ? Yes. Regime change at Broad Lane desperately required.
Season 2025-26. E.C.L. Division One North. The lowest league finish in The Pyramid for DECADES. Reprieves will no doubt save the club from relegation back to the Essex & Suffolk Border League.

12 April 2001 - Isthmian Lge. Div. 2 v Berkhamsted Town (away) won 2-1.
Fixture chaos with The Dragons playing 17 games in a month. A fine win with Julian Hazel & Paul Abrahams (pictured) scoring - a fairly decent forward line! Julian's 8th & Paul's 11th goals of the season.
Tony Godden 1955-2026.
Sad news that the former Dragons goalkeeper recently passed away.
He played 42 games during the club's 1st season in the Premier Division of the Isthmian League. His debut came in the 3-0 home win over Staines Town in front of a crowd of 673.
RIP TONY.
13 March 2010 - E.C.L. Premier Division v Wisbech Town (away) lost 2-5.
1 of 32 defeats in 38 games as The Dragons finish bottom of the table. Defender Tom Cutts (pictured) & striker Wale Odedoyin the goal scorers. Tom's only goal of the season; Wale scored 5 times.
4 March 2003 - Isthmian Lge. Div. 1 North v Harlow Town (home) lost 1-3.
1 of 26 league defeats as The Dragons finish a disappointing 4th bottom of the table. Defender Martin Calver (pictured) nets his 3rd of 4 goals in 40 appearances this campaign - his only 1 with the club.
2 March 2002 - Isthmian League Division 2 v Berkhamsted Town (home) lost 1-4.
The heaviest defeat under the new regime of Steve Pitt since his mid-season return to the club. Striker Matt Carmichael (pictured) nets his 8th goal since signing in December.
1 March 2025 - E.C.L. Division 1 North v Haverhill Rovers (home) lost 0-1.
The league leaders win with a 1st half penalty. Wivenhoe sit 2 places & 9 points above the drop zone. A fine performance by 'keeper Gabe Ruth Pateman, making his 19th appearance of the season. Gate - 95.
