Wow, there’s a lot to unpack here. First and foremost though, I believe this person to be incapable of continuing to ascend in leadership positions and representation of me and my fellow South Carolinians. This interview piece does nothing but affirm that belief for me.
Congress can end this tariff madness whenever it wants. I don’t think the current delegations of the tariff power to the president are legal—or being interpreted correctly. But, irrespective, they can be rescinded instantly by Congress. It could do it today.
It is somewhat shocking to see how quickly this conversation has moved from stopping the flow of narcotics and freeing Venezuelans from a ruthless dictator to oil trading 🤷🏼♂️
There are so many legal minefields in this post by President Trump that I don’t even know where to start.
For the record, this is $1.8 billion to $3.1 billion worth of oil.
It's ok to have mixed feelings today. Pride in our military. Hope for a Venezuela free from Maduro. Concern about tenuous legal authority and fraying constitutional safeguards. Anxiety about what comes next on the ground, in Venezuela and at home.
